Archana Kamath, supported by OGQ in the Junior Scholarship program, won a bronze in the Junior girls singles event at the Spanish Cadet and Junior Table Tennis Open tournament.
This was a significant achievement for 16 year old Archana considering this is her first year in the U-18 category. She upset third seed Maria T. of Russia in the quarterfinals before losing to second seed Kana T. of Japan in the semi-finals. Incidentally Archana had defeated 12 year old Diya Chitale in the first round who is also supported by OGQ. Archana also beat Japanese girl Yuko Kato in the team event though the team lost the match eventually. This is the first time Archana has won against a top player from traditionally strong countries like Japan, China and Korea.
Archana has been undergoing a three month training stint under expert coach Peter Engel in Europe which has been funded by OGQ. We are extremely happy with her progress and she has made a smooth transition to the Junior category.
