Lakshya and Deepak win Gold medals at Junior Asian Championships

Lakshya Sen scripts history at Badminton Asia Junior Championship

16-year-old Lakshya Sen created history by winning the Men's singles title yesterday at the 2018 Badminton Asia Junior Championships held at Jakarta, Indonesia.

  • Lakshya beat the current Junior World No.1 K.Vitidsarn 21-19, 21-18 to win the finals.
  • He became the first Indian man in 53 years and third Indian overall to win a Gold at Junior Asian Championships after Gautam Thakkar (1965) and PV Sindhu (2012).
  • Seeded sixth, Lakshya beat higher ranked opponents en route the title. He beat 2nd seeded China’s Li Shifeng in the quarter finals and 4th seeded Indonesia's Imanuel Rumbay in the semi finals.

OGQ has been supporting Lakshya since he was 10 years old under the OGQ Junior Scholarship Program. He trains at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bangalore, where he is coached by Vimal Kumar, Sagar Chopra and Sayali Gokhlae and personally mentored by Badminton legend Prakash Padukone. OGQ has been supporting Lakshya with a physiotherapist, trainer, sports nutritionist, sports psychologist, foreign training and tournaments.

Deepak Punia wins Gold at Junior Asian Wrestling Championship

Wrestler Deepak Punia won the Gold medal in 86kgs at the 2018 Junior Asian Wrestling Championship in New Delhi on Sunday. In the finals, Deepak beat Turkmenistan's Azat Gajyyev 10-0 on technical superiority. Incidentally, Deepak won the Silver medal in the same tournament last year and has improved his performance this year winning all bouts comprehensively.

Deepak has been training under foreign coach Vladimir Mestvirishvili from Georgia for the last two years. OGQ has brought down coach Vladimir to train the junior wrestlers supported by OGQ at Chhatrasal Stadium, Delhi. OGQ has been supporting Deepak with a physiotherapist, trainer, sports nutritionist, domestic & foreign training and tournaments.
