Four badminton players supported by Olympic Gold Quest viz. Saina Nehwal, P.V. Sindhu and the doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa have qualified for the Rio Olympics. With this, 21 athletes supported by OGQ have earned quotas for India for Rio 2016.
India will be sending seven badminton players to Rio which is the biggest ever badminton contingent from India to qualify for the Olympics. Saina Nehwal will be leading the charge in women's singles along with P.V. Sindhu. This will be the third Olympics for London 2012 bronze medalist Saina Nehwal, while two time world championship bronze medalist Sindhu will be competing in her maiden Olympics. Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa, who had represented India at the London Games, will play their second Olympics in the women's doubles event. The other players who will represent India are Kidambi Srikanth in men's singles and Manu Atri and Sumeeth Reddy in men's doubles.
